Visit Uránia National Film Theatre between 16 and 18 November to see the stunning contemporary works, nominated for the Lux Film Prize by the European Parliament. Since 2007 the Lux Film Prize raises awareness to European values and the diversity of European traditions as well as to current social and political issues.
The three movies that will be screened this year capture the younger generation’s struggle to define themselves, seeking their place in the world and trying to form their identity.
As I Open My Eyes (À peine j’ouvre les yeux) is a drama of French-Tunisian director, Leyla Bouzid. The debut of the young talent is set in 2010 and portrays the time just before the start of the Jasmine Revolution through the story of Farah, a rock band singer and rebel.
My Life as a Courgette (Ma vie de Courgette) is a French-Swiss production, directed by Claude Barras. The stop motion animated film tells the story of a boy nicknamed Courgette, who gets into an orphanage after the death of his alcoholic mother.
The third movie is Toni Erdmann by German-Austrian director Maren Ade: the comedy drama about a family reunion promises some laughs and tears as well.
The screenings are free entry, please register at luxfilmnapok2016@urania-nf.hu.
